Full Job Description

Loughborough Schools Foundation are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and wellqualified
Teacher of PE to be based at Fairfield Prep School, on a maternity cover basis., To fulfil the teaching requirements as directed by the head of department, according to the
overall aims of the school and foundation.
To offer support to the learning and pastoral needs of individual students through the
school's pastoral policy and the school's aims and values., ? To teach the pupils according to their educational needs and abilities
? To foster and support for the school's rules and guidelines, aims, values and ethos
? To implement all relevant aspects of school policies e.g. reports, homework, etc.
? To participate in the department's contribution to the Open Morning
? To develop skills to meet the needs of current educational requirements by
attendance at lectures, conferences, and relevant courses, having first discussed the
feasibility of such action with the head
? To supervise student teachers, when appropriate
? To attend weekly departmental meetings
? To cover work provided for classes when members of the department are absent
(and in certain other cases too)
? to assist in the storage and maintenance of equipment, as appropriate
? to protect the safety of pupils and staff in accordance with the school's Health and
Safety Policy in liaison with the HoD and deputy head
? to realise the responsibility for Health and Safety problems/risk assessment and the
oversight of the safety of all students when being taught and making students
themselves aware of safety
? to ensure that pupils wear appropriate, regulation clothing and are aware of safety
rules within the department and especially those relating to Physical Education
? to update a First Aid Certificate to ensure First Aid could be administered in case of
an accident during any activity undertaken by the PE department and the updating of
Life Saving qualifications
? to participate in activities and events associated with the subject e.g. lectures,
exhibitions, visits, clubs, societies etc. and accompanying pupils to internal and
external events and competitions, as appropriate
? to participate and organise relevant matches, tournaments, tours and visits to other
events in accordance with the school's policy for offsite trips
? to encourage students to develop a sense of team spirit with emphasis on
cooperation and commitment to teams, one another and the school
? to participate and take a lead as appropriate in Sports Days, Swimming Galas,
House Matches, and any other appropriate event(s)
? to participate and take a lead as directed in departmental events
? to liaise with class teachers and the HoD, as appropriate, to ensure that the progress
of each student in PE is monitored
? to use IT within the department to help with teaching and learning, as and when
appropriate
? to assist in maintaining positive working relationships with the staff within the
Foundation Sports Faculty and across all foundation schools
? to encourage links between local clubs and the school, especially in sports not
offered in school
? to participate in the department's contribution to the extra curricular activities in the
school
? to attend Parents' Evenings relevant to students taught
? to undertake other tasks relevant to the work of the department or the needs of the
school, as these may arise (e.g. to serve as a form staff, to carry out duties, when
asked to do so)., Any other duties relating to the job as required from time to time by the Director of Sport or
Headmaster.

The successful applicant will be expected to assist with extra-curricular activities within the
sports faculty. Salary will be determined according to LSF pay scales. The school follows the
governments' guidelines for the support and further training of ECTs.

The post holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and
young persons with whom she/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure
compliance with the school's Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If in the
course of carrying out the duties of the post the post holder becomes aware of any actual
or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school she/he must report any
concerns to the school's child protection officer.

Required from January 2025, the suitable candidate will be a highly motivated and
committed individual with an excellent track record of teaching and student progress. They
will be expected to deliver outstanding lessons to ensure excellence and achievement for
all learners, with a true commitment to raising standards., ? Experience and a passion for the delivery of Physical Education
? Educated to degree level or above, the post holder may also have other relevant
professional qualifications
? IT literate with a willingness to develop skills as the use of technology changes;
? Must be competent in the use of ICT for teaching and learning purposes, and for
recording and monitoring use
? Effective and efficient communication skills, both verbal and written
? Good organisational skills
? Good communication skills
? Able to work effectively with students, parents, outside agencies and colleagues
? Good team worker
? A specialism in Netball would be beneficial.

Loughborough Schools Sport is a sports faculty where the staff work across the sports
departments in all four foundation schools. Fairfield Prep School, Loughborough Amherst
School, Loughborough High School and Loughborough Grammar School. This role will
be mostly based at Fairfield Prep School, however the successful applicant will be a
member of the Foundation Sports Faculty and may be required to teach across any of the
schools.

The school has a well-equipped gymnasium, six netball courts, eight tennis courts
and the all- weather floodlit hockey pitch. The Loughborough Schools Foundation also
have their own heated, indoor swimming pool where all students from year 3 upwards
have swimming lessons.

The major games played are currently hockey, netball, rugby, football, cricket, tennis
and athletics but we are also very successful in a range of other sports and activities.
