Full Job Description

Salesian School is seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to teach Science. The Science Department at Salesian has a track record of success at both GCSE and A-level. The department is enthusiastic and progressive, with Teaching and Learning at the heart of everything it does and a focus on teaching your science specialism at GCSE and A-level. We are exceptionally proud of our results. Last year 74% of students achieved a Combined Science GCSE between grades 9-5, with an overall subject progress score of +0.7. In addition, Triple Science students achieved outstanding results. 85% of students achieved a 7+ in Chemistry, 91% of students achieved a 7+ in Biology and 93% of students achieved a 7+ in Physics. Every triple science subject achieved a progress score of above +1.0. At Key Stage 5 we have a thriving Department and excellent results. In Biology 58% of grades were A

  • -B, in Physics 58% of grades were A-B and in Chemistry 53% of grades were A-B.
  • We are committed to constantly evaluating and improving our pedagogy and we are committed to delivering outstanding lessons that excite and enthuse students. The department currently consists of 15 specialist science teachers and 5 technicians, who all play an integral part in the development and improvement of the science experiences across the school. Relationships are important and we pride ourselves on supporting one another. We are committed to teacher training and often have SCITT and PGCE Trainees looking to take advantage of our exceptional training and support. We are also always keen to work with ECTs as we firmly believe that we benefit as much from their fresh ideas and creativity as they do our guidance and experience. The successful applicant will have a genuine passion for the subject and for teaching children, the ability to inspire staff and students, and the desire to go the extra mile to help our students achieve their full potential.     Salesian is a co-educational 11-18 Catholic comprehensive school and is part of the Xavier Catholic Education Trust. Standards at the school are very high and students achieve exceptionally well. In last year's GCSE examinations 47% of all grades were 7-9, 92% 4-9 and our overall Progress 8 was +0.96. At A' level 32% of grades were A
