Full Job Description

Teaching Assistant & Lunchtime Supervisor Reports to: Head of Prep Hours Monday-Friday: 10.30am - 2.30pm (Term-Time only, plus 10 days) The Learning Support Department is a well-established, hard-working department, consisting of two specialist teachers of students with dyslexia and four Learning Support Assistants. The department work as a team, working together and also working closely with individual subject teachers to ensure that students can access the curriculum. The role would suit someone with experience of working with children with specific learning difficulties and special educational needs; it would also suit someone who may be considering a future career in teaching who is willing to learn and embrace the area of special educational needs. Purpose of the position: In addition to the requirements of a class teacher, the main activities and responsibilities for this post are:

  • To work collaboratively with teaching staff in meeting the personal, social and curriculum needs of pupils.
  • Assist with the differentiated delivery of the curriculum and to provide feedback on progress to the teaching staff and SENCO.
  • To encourage pupils to become independent learners, to provide support for their welfare, and to support the inclusion of pupils in all aspects of school life.
  • To establish positive relationships with pupils and assist them to complete structured learning activities. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area (supporting during exams; some co-curricular lunchtime activities or going on school trips etc).
