Full Job Description

ASEND supports SEND pupils and continues their learning while they cannot access school or don't have a school place. We are looking for SEN Teaching Assistants with experience to support pupils in Newham who struggle with learning and school., We are looking for confident SEN Teaching Assistants to support children and young people with SEND in Newham. We support pupils with SEND who are struggling to engage in the classroom or who are not attending school for a number of reasons including a lack of a suitable school place. We aim to improve their learning experience or prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

We work with pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times, and in a range of settings including schools, community centres, homes and out in the community. We need a wide range of SEND Teaching Assistants to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each person with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About our pupils
The ages range from reception all the way up to young adults and their needs can range from needing a little support to access learning, to severe learning difficulties, requiring mentoring, going into the community, delivering joint lessons with a teacher or tutor. We would expect a TA to:

Assist the SEN teacher or tutor in implementing individualised education plans for students with diverse abilities and learning styles
Provide one-on-one support to students with special needs to help them stay on task and engage in classroom activities
Create and adapt instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of pupils with disabilities
Collaborate with other members of the team to ensure the success of pupils with special needs
Help monitor and track student progress and social skills development
Assist in creating a positive and safe learning environment for pupils who can become overwhelmed
Attend training and professional development sessions to enhance skills and knowledge in working with students with special needs.

You'll have some experience with SEN: Autism, ADHD, Learning Difficulties, SEMH etc
You may have professional or personal experience working with children in a therapeutic way
You'll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement
You'll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and other professionals
Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning
Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
Use a person-centred approach in their work
Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do
Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
