Full Job Description

Job Summary: The appointed person will be expected to assist and contribute to the development and efficient delivery of the teaching and technical support function within the School of Nursing and Allied Health. Assisting in the provision of technical and teaching support for activities based within the Simulation and Skills Resource Centre. Assist with writing and delivery of simulation scenarios including, but not limited to, the use of manikins. Be technically competent in use of relevant equipment. Assist with security of equipment and safe disposal of sharps and waste. Contribute to stock control, equipment maintenance and hygiene, and health and safety requirements. The post holder may be required to undertake some evening and weekend work, in order to support the business needs of the School.,

  • Assist in the support for the Simulation and Skills Resource Centre ensuring that the
  • rooms are prepared for teaching, equipment is checked and in working order
  • To contribute to the provision of teaching and technical support service within the
  • School.
  • The planning and delivery of practical demonstrations, including timetabling of
  • sessions, provision of equipment and other resources required.
  • Participating in the structure and content of practical sessions including the
  • development of lesson plans, teaching materials and exercises to support practical classes.
  • The delivery of practical demonstrations, including the demonstration of processes and
  • techniques. Applying and sharing a working knowledge of appropriate theory and practice with students.
  • To ensure optimal use of the School's technical facilities and expertise, ensuring
  • effective timetabling to guarantee appropriate access to all service users.
  • Assist students with equipment and consumables for personal/group practice activities
  • outside of class time, as available accommodation and time permits.
  • Liaising with academic, technical and support staff to deliver the use of technical
  • resources and expertise in the curriculum.
  • To be responsible for the cleanliness, care and maintenance of designated technical
  • areas
  • Assist with the maintenance of relevant equipment to a high standard through effective
  • housekeeping, cleaning, repair or replacement of parts as directed.
  • Assist with the monitoring of equipment and processes within the School to ensure they
  • are maintained as required by any relevant statutory provision, and that staff and students are suitably informed, instructed, trained and supervised in their use.
  • Produce Word documents, databases, spreadsheets and presentation files for
  • classroom teaching support, for technical documentation and administration purposes
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff and visitors: face to face, over the
  • telephone, e-mail or by other means. Make effective use of Outlook calendar, tasks etc.
  • Assist with simulation training. This will require working with advanced life size
  • manikins, Endoscopy scopes, ABP's (Animal by products) predominantly porcine, wireless ad hoc networking, and a range of specialist medical, IT and recording equipment.
  • Input data into an on-line catalogue/database of supplies and stock. Help ensure
  • appropriate minimum and maximum stock levels of all medical equipment and supplies are maintained via procurement processes.
  • Comply with relevant Health & Safety legislation in relation to all aspects of the role -
  • assist with Risk Assessments, disposal of clinical sharps and waste, manual handling duties on a daily basis, operation of gas cylinders containing medical air or oxygen. Competency training will be essential to comply with Health & Safety and any COSHH requirements.
  • Assist with annual and interim audits of stock as required by management and help
  • keep accurate records of stock location, particularly where stock is removed from the premises for teaching elsewhere.
  • Maintain the diary containing the room bookings and equipment requirements .
  • Support activities that run into the late evening, weekends and off site, as business
  • needs demand.
  • Liaison with academic staff, technicians and other Faculty staff, sharing and
  • disseminating good practice.
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post as may be specified from
  • time to time by the Senior Medical Technician.
