Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated team lead/aspiring team lead to join our dynamic Trauma and Orthopaedic team based at the Princess Royal University Hospital. You will work closely alongside the clinical lead occupational therapist for general surgery. The service is dynamic and offers a challenging clinical environment for a confident and skilled occupational therapist.
The trauma and orthopaedics occupational therapy team provide assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning for patients admitted to trauma, orthopaedics, fracture, and sometimes general surgery specialisms., As the team lead OT, the post holder will oversee, coordinate and develop the orthopaedic occupational therapy service at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
They will provide specialist assessment, consultancy and intervention of patients' occupational needs within the inpatient setting as clinically indicated.
They will carry a caseload of patients with complex health and social care needs using evidence based practise and client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
The post holder will provide clinical and professional leadership to a team of qualified members of staff and will be encouraged and supported to develop their clinical, teaching, and managerial skills.
They will maintain a high standard of autonomous working and supervision of others in complex assessment, treatment and discharge planning.
They will be forward-thinking and identify areas for service development and projects for their team to complete.
They will proactively participate and motivate others to lead CPD sessions through journal clubs, in-service skills training and peer support.
The post holder will attend relevant meetings as a representative of the team and will advise on service developments in line with government policy development.
There will be an expectation that there is flexibility to this role and there will be a requirement to work closely alongside the Surgical Team and the Surgical Team Lead Occupational Therapist., Patient Care
+ To manage a caseload of patients using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
+ To work across professional groups to ensure high quality and timely services are provided to patients.
+ To work with patients to identify Occupational Therapy goals as part of the overall care plan.
+ To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
+ To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyles changes and adaptations to the clients social and physical environment.
Service Development
+ To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Occupational Therapy services within a designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
+ To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust Occupational Therapy service.
+ To participate in the delivery of the Occupational Therapy development plan.
+ Contribute to the Trust's clinical governance arrangements and quality agenda, including the setting and monitoring of practice standards.
+ To apply national guidelines/legislation relating to health and social care in the NHS service provision.
Staff Management
+ To monitor and advise in the allocation of students in the Orthopaedic and Surgical team.
+ To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placement.
+ To co-ordinate supervision and appraisal of senior and junior staff.
+ To contribute to the induction and training of students and other staff both within the Trust and where appropriate externally.
+ To teach on the in-service training programme.
Communication
+ To establish robust communication networks with patients, carers, multidisciplinary members and other agencies.
+ To promote awareness of the role of Occupational Therapy within the team, negotiating priorities where appropriate.
+ To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards and provide reports relevant to practice setting.
Research
+ To undertake audit projects relevant to the service area, disseminating findings at local level.
+ To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects.
GENERAL
The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

You must have a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy and be HCPC registered.
