Compass is delighted to provide Mental Health Support Teams in education settings across Birmingham (locality TBC) serving the children, young people and families and communities.

The Opportunity

This role is a real opportunity to help lead and shape the services we provide with children, young people, families and educational settings and to develop your career in mental health support to children, young people and families.

The Team Leader role will work alongside colleagues to further develop MHSTs with a focus on building partnerships with education settings and to drive highly effective and CYPF focussed mental health and wellbeing services in line with the national MHST operating framework; managing, supervising and innovating with practitioners in the service.

About the team

Compass Birmingham MHST (Wave 12) is a new early intervention and preventative mental health and emotional wellbeing service. The service delivers evidenced based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs.

The service is part of the national MHST Programme, which has been commissioned following the Transforming Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Care Provision: A Green Paper (2017).

You will be a values-driven (integrity, valuing each individual, solution focused, consistent and reliable) individual with a passion for supporting children, young people and families mental health and wellbeing. You will also have:

  • Relevant degree (e.g., social work, psychology, psychotherapy, nursing), or equivalent.

  • Experience of team management and / or leadership role

  • Experience of working with young people and/or adults of all ages with behavioural and/or mental health issues and/ or learning disabilities and/or neurodiversity


  • Due to the nature of the role there is a need to travel to individual schools, which will require a driving license and access to a vehicle (for individuals who cannot drive due to a disability, we can consider accessibility options i.e. provided via Access to Work etc).
