Team Leader

The Special Schools Nursing Network collaborates with special schools to ensure that children with complex health needs can safely access their education.

Working as a network strengthens the capacity within the nursing service, ensuring training and competency assessments of school staff are prioritised and effectively delivered across designated schools.

This is achieved through training and assessing the competencies of school staff, who provide hands-on care to meet the health needs of children and young people.

The nursing team will work across the network to ensure there is a shared workforce that can meet the safety needs of all children within the designated special schools.

The Special Schools Nurses triage and assess to identify any health tasks that can be delegated to school staff, who are then trained, supervised, and competency-assessed to deliver the health tasks This supervision and observation continues throughout the year, ensuring school staff feel supported and remain competent.

Additionally, staff receive updated training and their competency is reassessed annually or sooner if required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder should possess strong clinical skills to deliver training and competency assessments. You must be able to present power point presentations and clinical skills demonstrations to varied audiences, from one-to-one sessions to small or large groups, including whole-school groups.

You will also need to answer queries as well as signpost to other services or professionals when appropriate.

Empathy towards children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, along with excellent communication skills, are essential qualities for the post holder.

NMC registered paediatric nurse with a minimum of 3 years of acute experience Nursing degree, diploma and evidence of relevant post graduate development at Level 6 Driving licence and access to own vehicle, Evidence of specialist qualifications relevant to area of practice (mentorship), Minimum of 2 years' experience in complex needs or community setting Experience of teaching clinical skills and presenting information to large groups Supporting others (mentor / educator / supervisor) experience, Experience of leading and managing teams Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and a variety of IT packages (Powerpoint, Excel and RIO)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE, Understanding of National Service Frameworks and NICE guidance to relevant to care setting and its application across health care services Evidence of continued relevant professional development and implementation in practice within the last 12 months, Understanding of training needs in relation to post Ability to manage time effectively, priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines Ability to work effectively with a variety of people at all organisational levels across different sectors including educational settingsAbility to communicate and adapt practice to work with children and young people with complex needs Excellent communication skills and ability to work with other professionals, KCC staff and families Ability to triage and complete health needs assessments, Ability to motivate and organise others to ensure best practice. Able to support the implementation of local and national agenda for health under the guidance of the senior Practitioner Ability to prioritise care delivery in a professional manner, considering Trust policies and procedures.
