Full Job Description

The successful candidate will assume a senior leadership role within the Emergency Department, combining clinical expertise with team management responsibilities. As a key figure within the department, the post holder will serve as a role model, providing visible, accessible leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based patient care.
This role involves senior-level responsibilities, including overseeing managerial duties within the assigned team while also contributing to strategic initiatives at the departmental and organizational level.
Clinically, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the department consistently meets quality and safety standards. They will also play a pivotal role in the collection and analysis of ED data to assess departmental risks and inform decision-making.
The post holder will effectively manage and resolve complaints and incidents, leading investigations where necessary, reporting findings, and implementing changes to improve practice. They will also manage and support their team of nursing staff through HR processes and professional development initiatives.

Act as a positive role model for all staff, upholding professional standards of conduct and behaviour in line with Trust and NMC requirements.
+ Oversee the day-to-day management of the department, ensuring optimal skill mix and staffing levels are achieved through effective utilization of the team, providing high-quality care around the clock.
+ Support the development and monitoring of departmental standards, actively reviewing, managing, and reporting on audits and objectives. This includes monitoring staff performance and appraisals, managing attendance (absence and sickness), ensuring compliance with best practice tariffs, maintaining environmental cleanliness, overseeing documentation, and promoting staff education, skills development, and competence.
+ Provide strong leadership, motivating and empowering both registered and unregistered nursing staff, while implementing and promoting HR and performance policies to foster a positive performance culture. Contribute to the dissemination of protocols and guidelines.
+ Foster a positive approach to patient care, effectively managing conflicts and complaints, and actively seeking feedback to continuously improve service delivery., · To coordinate the nursing care of all patients attending the Emergency Department
· To provide clinical leadership to the nursing team within the Emergency Department to ensure high standards of patient care are maintained
· To take charge of the Emergency Department and manage all resources effectively
· To ensure quality standards and Emergency Department targets are adhered to and met
· To manage and lead a specific team of nursing staff, including Human resources, Staff appraisals / personnel issues and disciplinary procedures.
· To support the Emergency Department OSM, Clinical Lead Nurse / Modern Matron, and clinical leads
· To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of a collective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
