Full Job Description

We are looking for a fully qualified senior youth worker to fulfil the role of Team Leader for Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust. The post is part of an innovative national initiative to reduce inequalities and support young people who have been involved in exploitation, violence, and knife crime. The role of Team Leader is a completely new post to the youth work department in Leeds Teaching Hospitals (LTHT).

The post advertised has a key leadership and management role at a senior level and will provide specialist skills and expert knowledge to lead the organisation, delivery and implementation of all Youth Work services and strategy for patients aged 11-25 years across LTHT. You will lead, manage, and continue to develop the largest hospital-based Youth Work service in the country and further develop the Navigator project across LTHT and with our external partners. You will provide a first-class service that incorporates a wide range of engagement activities to enable young people to develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills throughout the illness trajectory, and to offer peer group support across all specialties. Some of this work will involve working shifts and weekends on a rota basis., The post holder will be expected to work on a strategic and operational level in leading and managing the Youth Work Service and Navigator project across LTHT (under the Youth Work umbrella). This will also involve working with regional and national partners, developing our community outreach engagement programme as well as with young people aged 11-25 years who may be involved in antisocial behaviour, violence, gangs, or illegal activity. The role will require shift work including twilight and weekends on a rota basis.

This is a secondment role that is funded until 31st March 2025, it is anticipated that further funding will be sought moving forward. It is expected that applicants will have good experience in having worked with hard to engage young people to achieve positive outcomes and staff management experience. Individuals applying for this post should also be willing and able to work autonomously to actively engage young people in the hospital setting, going the extra mile to locate and engage service users.

The A and E Navigators is a relatively new service aimed at supporting young people who have been victims of serious youth violence, coming through the hospital system.

Our team of professionally qualified youth workers, aim to engage and support the hard-to-reach young people to positively improve outcomes for these individuals.

Our hospital-based youth service is aimed at supporting young people with long term chronic health conditions.
