About Us:

Help keep the traffic moving on our streets and roads

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and businesses at the heart of everything we do, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective and efficient. Committed to acting with openness, honesty, compassion and humility, we aim to listen and understand in a way that is respectful, encourages involvement and meets the needs of all our communities.

The Role:

This is an important role with the Network Management team of our Highways and Regulatory Services Department and will see you taking responsibility for the co-ordination of all activities that take place on our borough's public highways. This will include managing activities such as utility and highway works, special events, and highway licencing activities. You will ensure that major projects carried out by utility companies and developers are carried out safely, on time and with minimal disruption. With this in mind you'll develop and implement bespoke initiatives to help co-ordinate works and ensure programmes of work are assessed and monitored thoroughly.

Your additional responsibilities will be wide and varied and include leading on initiatives involving TfL such as the Bus Sense Corridor work, co-ordination of the Thames Bridges Crossings and other pan London co-ordination initiatives. You'll also chair quarterly co-ordination meetings with stakeholders, ensure residents and businesses are provided with the information they need to allow them to make informed choices on their journeys, and provide regular updates on works and incidents that might affect the road network.

About You:

With a City and Guilds New Roads and Street Works Act qualification levels 1-9, and an HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a similar field, you'll have extensive experience of applying current legislation and codes of practices and in-depth knowledge of network management theory, practice and procedures. You should have managed or supervised major utility programmes and projects, and have the skills and confidence to develop good partnerships with utility companies, developers, residents, businesses, TfL and other stakeholders.

Highly organised and capable of managing budgets in line with the Council's financial management practices and policies, you'll be ready to take account of the needs of local residents and businesses when you make decisions. You'll enjoy a great deal of variety in the projects you work on, and in addition to being an inspirational and motivating team manager, you'll also possess excellent commercial awareness and constantly look for different ways to maximise our revenue streams.

Join us, and you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays. And as a key member of our team, you'll also have plenty of opportunities for development and progression within our organisation.
