Full Job Description

We are currently looking to appoint a Team Leader to contribute to and oversee the work of the Tree and Tractor Team within the Green Spaces Team. The successful candidate will have experience of working within an arboriculture environment, carrying out both practical work and inspections, and recommending and scheduling any work. The ability to effectively plan the various maintenance tasks of the Tractor Team in a timely manner is essential in order to meet weekly targets., Undertake tree surgery, thinning and maintenance, using specialist equipment, working at heights.
- Undertake planned and reactive surveys of trees on Council land and scheduling of any remedial work
- General grounds maintenance of areas e.g. Sports pitches, grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, clearing shrub beds, planting, pruning, seeding duties and constructional labouring
- Undertake performance management reviews with employees, including annual Appraisals and Personal Development Plans and ensuring paperwork is completed and submitted.
- Use and maintenance of tools and equipment, including powered hand tools, elevated platforms and ride on mowing equipment
- Complete all necessary paperwork and ensure submission to supervisor within specified timescales
- Carry out quality and safety checks on tasks performed by Tractor and Tree Team employees
- Champion equalities and challenge inappropriate conduct by team members
- Undertake risk assessments to ensure all team members comply with health and safety requirements including Personal Protective Equipment
- All duties must be carried out to comply with:

  • The Health & Safety at Work Act.

  • Acts of Parliament, Statutory Instruments and Regulations and other legal requirements.

  • Nationally agreed Codes of Practice, which are relevant.

  • - All duties will be carried out in the working conditions normally inherent in the job

    Educated to GCSE standard 'C' or above (or equivalent)

  • UK Driving licence Category C1 + E
    NPTC Categories CS30, 31, 32, 38, 39
    Trained to drive a Tractor with Attachments is desirable
    360 Excavator trained is desirable, Experience of tree felling and maintenance, including aerial work and rescue and use of chainsaws
    - Experience of operating a tractor and utilising a variety of maintenance attachments such as mowing decks, verti-drainer, chain harrow and Lute, and performing associated playing pitch maintenance
    - Experience of identifying species, defects, and environmental issues within trees and recommending remedial work as appropriate
    - Experience of directing and supervising staff and associated management tasks
    - Experience of working in a customer focused environment, delivering services to householders and members of the public
    - Skills in customer care
    - Good communication skills, both orally and written
    - Skills in IT and ability to use a variety of software packages including Microsoft Office.
    - Ability to write reports relating to tree health and recommendations regarding work to be carried out
    - Ability to motivate and lead a team of employees to achieve targets and outcomes
    - Ability to work as part of a team
    - Ability to plan work schedules to meet set deadlines and ensure they are met
    - Ability and willingness to challenge inappropriate behaviours and to take any necessary action
    - A serious and responsible attitude to Health and Safety and will to encourage others to act accordingly
    - Ability to work in an outdoor environment and capable of working in a physically demanding job
    - An understanding of employees' responsibilities in terms of Health and Safety at work.
    - The ability to work some overtime during Bank Holidays and peak periods
    - Ability and willingness to demonstrate the council's values and behaviours
    - Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes, Disability Confident
