Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced, adaptable, dynamic and highly motivated person to work with our Digitally Aided Making technical team at the Royal College of Art. This team supports a wide variety of programmes with 2D and 3D digital manufacturing processes activities across RCA, including Laser cutting, Zund digital cutting, Fiber Laser cutting for metals, and CNC milling.
The day job as a Technical Instructor in Digitally Aided Making:
+ Provide technical support, advice, and demonstrations in Digitally Aided Making spaces.
+ Deliver technical instruction on making using 2D digital manufacturing with Laser Cutting and Digital cutting.
+ Continual learning as part of a dynamic team.
+ Assist students and staff in problem solving and finding technical solutions.
+ Maintain specialist equipment and applicable health and safety, keeping accurate records.
+ Support College Teaching, Learning, Research activity as appropriate for the role.

+ Knowledge and experience of 2D and 3D digitally aided making processes, including CNC milling, Laser Cutting, and/or Digital knife cutting (or similar cutting plotters like Zund).
+ Knowledge and experience of at least one of the following CAD packages: Adobe Illustrator, Rhino, Powermill, Fusion360, Zbrush, Mayka, DelCam or SheetCam.
+ Knowledge of how digital manufacturing can be applied within the design process.
+ An understanding of model making, pattern making, or prototyping.
+ The ability to instruct and demonstrate in a small group context.
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
+ The ability to use initiative and work as part of a team.
+ Excellent organisational, time management, planning and problem-solving skills.
+ Excellent user focus and a flexible approach.
+ Knowledge of Health and Safety issues and Risk Assessment procedures.
+ Experience of creating online learning materials is desirable.
+ An interest and enthusiasm for contemporary art, design and culture is desirable.
