Technical Manager

As the Technical Manager at Wholegood, you will play a crucial role in our mission, working directly with the CEO to oversee the technical operations. You will manage a skilled workforce of four or more employees, ensuring the seamless integration and efficiency of our technical processes. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining the high standards that our customers and growers have come to expect from Wholegood.

• To support, mentor, implement, achieve, and drive a process to continually improve food safety, legality and quality management and to maintain these standards in line with BRC START!, customer requirements, UK legislation and due diligence.


• Ensuring product safety, quality, legality, and relevant fresh produce quality standards are maintained throughout the supply chain and site operation.


• Monitor and report any issues that compromise product legality, safety & quality and as per customer specifications.


• Onboarding new suppliers for both fresh produce and wholesale brands & conducting the supplier and product risk assessments to ensure effective food defence.


• Ensure suppliers meet BRC, Organic/Demeter food standards where appropriate.


• Conduct supplier/product performance trending as well as customer complaints trending and report to senior management at the monthly food safety meetings.


• Set the site's technical strategy for ensuring fresh produce quality and setting out and delivering improvement plans.


• Maintain & develop the company QMS and ensure that they are always "Audit ready".


• Manage the sites internal audits program in line with the QMS.


• Continually review, improve and update the HACCP system.


• Undertake horizon scanning, report to senior management, and install effective food defence protocols in place to mitigate the risks.


• Working collaboratively with other functions within the trading teams to ensure effective management and initiatives such as sustainability.


• Be a proactive member of the Crisis Management team.


• Complete ownership of all aspects of Technical and 'go to' contact for customers.


• Support, manage & mentor the technical team ensuring all staff members of the site are suitably trained to maintain standards.
