This is a linked post which will allow the Technical Officer (Psychology) to transition towards a Senior Technical Officer post after achieving the necessary experience and / or qualifications.
The Psychology Subject Group within the Department of Psychology, Sport and Geography is looking to recruit a Technical Officer (Psychology) to support teaching, learning and research across our portfolio. The successful candidate will be part of a small team of technicians who prepare materials and equipment for projects, assisting in equipment maintenance and demonstration of safe use plus providing technical support for our Psychology research and teaching. Knowledge and an understanding of IT Support and experience of programming is desirable. The role will involve supporting research equipment such as Eye Tracking (SR EyeLink), Physiological Measurement (Biopac), EEG (Brain Products) and Virtual Reality (Vive, Oculus). As such, any experience of these or similar products would be a distinct advantage. However, training can be provided to the right candidate.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Technical Officer (Psychology) will be expected to provide support for teaching, research and learning primarily within Psychology. This can involve preparation of materials and equipment for practical classes and projects as required in the subject area but could involve support in other areas of the school. The post also involves supporting some of the specialist equipment and software, assisting with the maintenance of mailing lists, lab bookings, equipment loans and our inventory. It also entails an understanding of Health & Safety requirements for the area, ensuring activities and resources comply with legislation and local codes of practice.

The Technical Officer (Psychology) will need to work to deadlines, follow detailed instructions, have good communication skills and have good IT skills as well. They are expected to work as part of a team but also work productively in isolation. They will have to have a flexible approach to workloads, be reliable and adaptable, as well as have a willingness to learn new skills and undertake further qualifications. It would be a distinct advantage to have previous HE experience, IT support experience and an understanding of health and safety requirements for teaching and learning environments. Experience of experiment generator software and specialist equipment would also be highly beneficial., The Technical Officer (Psychology) is expected to be educated with 'A' level standard for Psychology, Computer Science or a similar area, as well as need to hold five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English, or proven experience
