Full Job Description

Due to their continued growth, they are now looking for an ambitious and passionate Technical and Policy Assistant to facilitate and provide administrative support to the IMarEST's members, who are developing solutions to challenges across the marine sector.

The role will support the Institute's numerous technical and policy engagement activities whilst promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, enabling networking and knowledge sharing, and encouraging the continuing professional development of IMarEST members.

This requires engagement and facilitation of the Institute's many and varied Special Interest Groups to ensure that they can operate efficiently and effectively to deliver the outputs in the Institute's technical plan.

Technical and Policy Assistant, day to day duties:

  • Providing coordination and administrative support to the Institute's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) established around marine sector engineering, science or technology issues

  • Refine processes and procedures for the operation of the SIGs, and provide training and support in their use

  • Encouraging growth in SIG activities and engagement, including charitable activity and the potential for income generation from membership growth, events, and content

  • Collaborating volunteers from across the Institute's membership as well as with stakeholders and strategic partners around the world

  • Cooperating with the Marketing and Events team to support them in developing and delivering technical conferences, lectures, roundtables, training courses and networking events

  • Assisting the Institute's representation at Inter-Governmental Organisations and other policy and regulatory fora

  • Engaging with the Institute's Technical Leadership Board and Communications and PR Team

  • Participating in the editorial processes for the Institute's Marine Professional magazine

  • Keeping up to date with the latest developments in engineering, scientific and technology in the marine sector

    Experience in an administrative role, preferably with Professional Bodies or Learned Societies

  • Personable and great relationship builder - capable of providing advice and support to a range of stakeholders

  • Ability to develop networks as well as engage, influence and communicate with different audiences

  • Self-motivated, resourceful and task driven

  • Excellent time management and organisation skills with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload

  • Experience of facilitating meetings and minute taking

  • Interested in the marine sector and willing to learn about international policy making in global marine/maritime fora

  • Familiarity and comfortable with using on-line collaborative tools (Microsoft Suite including Teams, Sharepoint).

  • Experience of CRM and systems used for member networking would be advantageous

  • Ideally an engineer, scientist or technologist and University degree qualified
