Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a Technical Service Engineer to join the Engineering team at Orient Way Maintenance Depot. Reporting to the Deputy Head of Production, the role will be responsible for working at outstation and satellite stabling locations to assist with service start-up failures. Focusing on reducing liquidating damages through timely repairs to customer service defects. The successful candidate will be proactive and work towards company KPIs and values.,

  • Undertaking Fault finding and the associated repair thereof.

  • Provides assistance and technical feedback to the management team.

  • Observe all the rules and regulations related to health and safety practices, including a tidy workplace and disposing of substances with a high environmental impact.

  • Undertake and provide support across the business for all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems.

  • Carry out in-house repairs of unserviceable equipment to reduce waste and increase efficiency in repair times on units.

  • Maintain stock levels and stock checks on site by booking our parts on the asset management system and communicating with depot management teams and the LOR manager.


  • Organisational:
  • Supplements Infor EAM (SRMS) (RDS) and other relevant reporting systems and documents the work orders as required, including entering of hours worked, booking materials used and taking support documentation for potential D and V claims. This includes working with tablets, smart phones and mobile applications.

  • Attending and support drivers with start up failures to enable units to go into service by resolving unit defects and performing functional system tests on start up.

  • Investigate and repair service failure defects.

  • Perform work in accordance with work instructions and Safety Procedures and contributing to create and/ or update these instructions.

  • Provide detailed reports on reliability, performance and safety.

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds / BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias and NVQ level 4 or to a proven similar standard or equivalent experience.

  • Extensive professional engineering experience in (rolling stock) maintenance or equivalent.

  • Able to read electrical/mechanical schematics competently.

  • Ability to work in a pressurised environment and make decisions to tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work as part of a team, going above and beyond where required.

  • Be able to pass and maintain all competencies required for the role.

  • Must demonstrate commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and ensure the depth of their specialist knowledge is maintained.

  • Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality.

  • Willing to support and guide colleagues.


  • Desirable:
  • Formal education at least to HNC / HND or equivalent standard in an appropriate subject matter.

  • 5 or more years on the rail industry.

  • Able to demonstrate ability to understand technical drawings, designs, reports and investigations that may have the impact to save and cost effective operation to both Stadler and to other stakeholders.

  • Salary of £45,760 plus 20% shift allowance

  • Base location at Orient Way Depot with frequent travel to satellite locations around the area.
