We have a unique opening for new Technical Support Offices to join our Operations team. Our team is continually evolving, with colleagues upskilling and diversifying in the Agency. We are a part of the Department of Transport as the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval Authority. With more than 40 years' experience, we have become one of the largest and well-respected approval bodies around. This position has been built on a reputation for technical expertise and quality, which is at the heart of everything we do, and what you could be a part of., As a Technical Support Officer (TSO), you will play an essential part in our Operations department working daily with our engineers and customers. You will gain first-hand experience and knowledge of our systems and Type Approval process which will enable you to integrate into the VCA and apply your existing skills and experiences. The fundamental skills of a TSO, including a strong administrative background and a good eye for detail, is reflected across the board. Your core responsibilities will be particular to the team and task you are working on. With multiple roles available, you can benefit from an arrangement that suits you. This will include working centrally from one of our offices in Nuneaton or Bristol, with an additional opportunity to travel offsite. You will be given comprehensive training, and your professional development will be continually supported to allow you to grow in the organisation. Working in a fast-paced environment, with our UK and overseas staff and manufacturers, your days will be varied, engaging with lots of different people. You will need to be an effective communicator, with excellent customer service skills and have a forward-thinking attitude when prioritising tasks and dealing with conflicting priorities. This role is a fantastic opportunity to join the Agency and work in the automotive industry. Your contributions will be of direct value to our team, the wider Agency and will help up to maintain our reputation with global customers and stakeholders. Your main duties will include but will not be limited to: From your first day you will learn about VCAs systems and the Type Approval process and then immediately contribute towards our goals. Day to day you will:

  • Work with a range of managers and engineers to keep the project status up to date and provide this information to key stakeholders, inc. reviewing and coordinating customer requests using the Agency's business systems
  • Maintain and develop knowledge of Type Approval process and subjects to broaden own competence
  • Review data and relevant information and process through the relevant tools and systems, examples include Competency, Training, Facility Appraisal, Audit and Test Reports
  • Liaise with vehicle manufacturers and answer their queries on the status of approvals
  • Assessment of Type Approval applications against an automotive standard, determining whether the document pack, including VCA documentation is complete. identify and resolve issues (inc. contact customers or internal stakeholders for document updates), communicate status and provide updates, maintain issues list to share with Engineers to improve process efficiency .
