Full Job Description

As Technical Support Officer you will be the first point of contact for routine facilities management enquiries from across the council. You will be empowered to solve issues where appropriate, working closely with internal colleagues and external parties, particularly our contracted FM partners. This will require regular travel to properties across the borough.

You will form a key part of the Facilities Management service, reporting to the Facilities Manager and working as a team alongside two Property Officers. There is very close working with other teams, particularly Capital Projects, Energy & Environment, Strategic Asset Management, Health & Safety and Estates on a wide range of issues. These can range from minor repairs, compliance enquiries, furniture orders, team relocations up to multi-million-pound projects and strategic planning.

We have a number of contractors and partners for service delivery and you will work closely with them, particularly in terms of security, repairs and furniture supplies.

You will raise orders and process payments for the service and provide a wide range of administrative and business support to the wider Strategic Property service.

Strategic Property forms an important part of the council's future plans as we strive to ensure our buildings are modern, fit for purpose and in the right locations for colleagues to deliver services to residents. We form an integral part of making sure the council is efficient and achieves its financial targets.

We are based in Ashton-under-Lyne but work in a hybrid manner, including in the office, on site or at home.

You will hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs or O-levels including Maths and English.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable speaking to people at all levels within the organisation. You will need to have close and positive relationships with colleagues across the council, so you will need to be able to build those relationships quickly.

The ability to work as part of the team is very important, although you will be expected to work on your own at times and be willing to take responsibility for your own work and development.

You must be committed to the principles of customer service, equality and democracy. We'll want you to develop professionally and you must be prepared to attend training courses and other development activities.

You'll need to be flexible and willing to work to meet the needs of the service. Due to the amount of travelling across the borough that is required you will need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business purposes.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a property or construction related field. Good presentation skills and the confidence to speak public would be a bonus, as would holding a degree or equivalent qualification., Our employees' skills, experience and knowledge are essential to our success along with their happiness, wellbeing, commitment, enthusiasm and motivation to be the best they can be.

At Tameside, we are committed to ensuring all our Citizens lead long, fulfilling and healthy lives. We are committed to supporting economic growth, providing high quality health and care services, protecting our most vulnerable and creating strong and supportive, self-sufficient communities.

We recognise that our people drive our success and enable the organisation to deliver on its vision, purpose and priorities, and that our people are our most important resource and asset. Our values underpin our practice and behaviours, and are at the heart of everything that we do; and we understand that how we do things is just as important as what we do.
