Full Job Description

A rare opportunity has arisen for two positions within the Technical Surveillance Unit as a Technical surveillance officer working with a team of specialist staff operating within the North-East Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). You will join Northumbria Police and work within the Regional Technical Surveillance Unit.

As a TSU officer, you will provide critical support and technical assistance in covert surveillance operations, collaborating with regional police forces and national law enforcement agencies to combat Serious and Organised Crime.

What you'll do

Customer Liaison & Feasibility Studies: Identify and prioritise requirements, ensuring authorizations. Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments, presenting options to agree on the best solution.
Solution Design & Implementation: Develop bespoke technical solutions, liaising with internal and external parties. Implement and install solutions, adapting to changes to maintain operation integrity and safety.
Team Collaboration & Flexibility: Work cooperatively with team members, contributing to team achievements and department goals whilst aligning with Police Service values.
Database & Equipment Management: Maintain detailed records for management and audit purposes. Service and repair equipment, monitor stock levels, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
Guidance: Provide guidance on equipment, ensuring issue is authorised and adheres to department and national procedures.

What you'll bring

We're looking for candidates who are not only highly motivated, mature, and disciplined but also possess the ability to make sound decisions and stay calm under pressure. As a TSU officer, you'll need to bring a forward-looking and creative approach to your duties, ensuring you're always one step ahead in this dynamic field.

Qualifications: HND/City and Guilds (QCF Level 5 or above) in Audio Visual technologies/engineering, broadcast or network engineering OR closely related technical or engineering disciplines.
Teamwork: Collaborate within a small specialist team, working independently and efficiently together.
Operational: Work in accordance with the aims and objectives set by the organisation in accordance with the National Decision Model and THRIVE.
Research and Project Work: You will be able to undertake research and project work to provide technical solutions or make recommendations to resolve issues, ensuring best value within Force budgets and presenting findings in an appropriate format to inform decision making.
Continuous Professional Development: You'll maintain professional license status and develop technical knowledge through liaison with external agencies/partners, attending meetings, courses and completing qualifications, as required, in order to keep up to date with changes.
Driving License and Flexibility: Possess a full UK/European driving licence and be willing to work unsociable hours and travel across the UK at short notice.

Desirable:

Experience: A background in AV systems; electronics, engineering, IP networks, together with established competency in MS suite, databases and record keeping management software.
Training: Health and Safety (IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent) or formal training experience., Disability Confident

Just so you know

If your application is successful, we'll ask you to complete a Management Vetting (MV) and Security Clearance (SC) form, therefore you must be a resident of the UK for a minimum period of 5 years to ensure vetting checks can be successfully performed. Terms of appointment

This is a permanent role subject to a six-month probationary period.
