Full Job Description

The Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) part of the University of York wishes to immediately recruit a Technician to the Process Development Unit (PDU) to support delivery of their broad range of applied research projects.
The centre is an open access business-facing R&D scale-up facility. It works closely with the University of York and other academic research groups across the globe as well as engaging with a wide range of commercial and other academic organisations., To provide technical support to applied projects within the bioeconomy. You will work with other technical and non-technical BDC staff to ensure the smooth running of the pilot plant and facilities.
Ideally, you will be a dynamic character who is self-motivated and organised, with attention to detail and a willingness to learn about new techniques and research methods.
As well as contributing to a series of industry-facing biorenewables-based projects providing technical input into projects based upon the improvement of plant, microbial and bio-based waste materials.
This is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant contribution to a forward looking, expanding research centre with a highly commercial outlook.

+ Experience of working in a laboratory environment.
+ A good experience of carrying out relevant technical activities, such as scientific equipment set up, analysis and sample preparation.
+ Strong attention to detail with detailed record keeping.
+ Highly organised ensuring work is delivered in most efficient manner. Ability to manage consumable stock and equipment maintenance/servicing.
+ Knowledge of biorefining, pre-processing, downstream processing and/or scale-up would be an advantage.
o Capacity for inter-disciplinary work and willingness to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas
o Willingness to learn, gain knowledge and acquire further relevant skills

You will be mentored by the Senior Technologist, with on the job learning and development, and any suitable training can be discussed. It is also hoped that a new member of the team will bring suggestions and ideas how services may be improved.
