Full Job Description

A Senior Technician post has become vacant within the School of Applied Sciences, supporting the Foundation Chemistry course and Pharmacy degree. The School of Applied Sciences (SAS) specialises in research and education in the fields of Biology, Biomedical Science, Chemistry, Pharmacy, Ecology and Conservation, Geography, and Environment. This diversity provides a rich environment to tackle global problems using multidisciplinary approaches. The School comprises of around 160 staff, including 30 technical staff, and 1200 students, studying on a range of courses from undergraduate to PhD level.
Technical staff are fundamental to the operation of the School, contributing to teaching, research and knowledge exchange. In this role, you will ensure the safe and efficient running of our modern laboratories, ensuring that equipment and facilities are well maintained as well as supporting students with their lab based learning. This role is an integral part of the departmental Technical Team, and you will be supervised by the Technical Team Manager.

You will have a good knowledge of Chemistry and/or Pharmaceutical Sciences, be able to transfer these skills between the two areas and be keen to work in a higher education institution to help our students in their continued development . You will have the organisational skills to plan your working week and able to use initiative to resolve issues encountered.
The university offers in-house training on a range of areas and we encourage the ongoing development of all staff members. This role benefits from 25 days annual leave, in addition to all bank holidays, and an additional closure period between Christmas and New year, giving a total of around 40 days per year.
