A Network Rail Distribution and Plant Technician is responsible for the maintenance, testing, repair, and installation of various railway infrastructure equipment and systems, including HV Switchgear, DC breakers, battery chargers, Points Heating, EICR testing, generators, lighting, and telecommunications equipment. When not working in lineside buildings you will be required to work in all weathers on the frontline and at height, what's more, when competent you'll develop your management skills by deputising for the Team Leader.

The role will predominantly be assisting a Team Leader in all aspects of maintenance within our infrastructure, most of the role is based off track in lineside buildings. They ensure that the railway network operates safely and efficiently by conducting regular inspections, troubleshooting faults, and performing preventative maintenance tasks. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance with industry regulations.

Technicians specialise in a range of disciplines and for this role you'll become a specialist in Distribution & Plant: You'll work as part of a team to keep power flowing through the electrified rail safely and efficiently. Day to day you'll work on the nuts, bolts and cables of the electrification system making sure that the railway has the power to run the trains, signals and stations. Our technicians work outside in all conditions, at all times of the year, day or night. You could be involved in demanding manual work, often with the need to transport kit across tricky terrain. Being safety focused, respectful of rules and a team player will be critical as you'll often be working next to moving trains travelling at high speed.

A natural team player, you'll also be able to lead the team when asked by the team leader. You'll use your skills to deliver work safely and will check the team has the right competencies to meet our strict safety standards. You'll also be a role model for safe working behaviours and be confident to challenge any potential risks to safety, so that everyone gets home safe every day.

Our technicians play a vital role in our maintenance teams. You don't necessarily need rail experience, but you do need to show how your transferrable skills meet the following:

· Technical skills –You'll have knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal techniques in the discipline that you are applying for.

· Safety – You consistently role model safe behaviours, can arrange and implement safe systems of work, and are confident to challenge if you think a situation is unsafe.

· Problem solver – You'll be persistent in finding safe and effective solutions. You'll consistently develop your skills and competencies relevant to your discipline, keeping up to date with new standards, procedures, and instructions to issues you find in your working environment.

· Relevant qualification – City & Guilds 2365 level 2 or equivalent

· Shifts – the Technician role involves a changing shift pattern including days, nights and weekends and may involve elements of on call.

· Outdoor working - Our Technicians work outside in all weathers and so you'll be comfortable working in different conditions. As part of our maintenance routine, we require vegetation clearance in our compounds.

· Safe working - Offers of employment are subject to drug and alcohol testing and passing of the relevant medical assessment (if not already held). This will include a hearing and eyesight examination. If you're an external candidate – you will also be required to undergo BPSS pre-employment checks.

· Driving - As a technician you'll also need a manual driving licence (category B) so you can drive Network Rail vehicles, you must of held your driving licence for at least a year.

· Commute times - You'll also need to be within a 60-minute commute of the location that you're applying for (TN24 0PU).

· Working at height – For certain tasks you will be required to work at height, pending relevant training. ·

· On Call – Staff carry out on call on a rotational basis, when on call you or a member of your team will have use of a vehicle for company use only.

CANDIDATE MUST BE A FULY QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN

Essential Criteria

· Knowledge of how to organise and control the safe and efficient delivery of work.

· Strong communication skills, both in person and in writing

· Have a driving licence for at least a year.

· 18^th Edition BS7671

· Willing and able to carry out on call duties if required.

Desirable Criteria

· Able to lead, motivate and direct a team if required.

· Experience of arranging and implementing safe systems of work

· City and Guilds 2391 Testing and inspection

· City & Guilds 2365 level 3 or equivalent

· Previous experience working on mechanical systems.

· Experience working on HV / DC equipment.

· Working on fixed or mobile plant.

· Points Heating experience.

· Experience working on Generators

· Experience with safety critical comms, All prospective candidates will be required to undergo and pass a drugs and alcohol test. Your application will be rescinded if you record a positive test. All positive drugs and alcohol test results for prospective candidates will be securely held on Sentinel database and a 5 year suspension from applying for a safety critical role, a role which requires PTS certification or a Key Safety role on Network Rail Managed Infrastructure will be enforced
