Full Job Description

The Role: Joining a passionate team of lecturers and technical staff, this post offers an exciting opportunity to provide technician and instructional duties within University Centre Sparsholt's fishery and aquatics provision.

The main requirements of the role will focus on supporting our Aquatic Research and Conservation centre, where we train aquarists of the future. The Facility includes tropical aquaculture systems, research facilities and ornamental marine and freshwater aquaria

There will also be occasional opportunities to provide further support within the Salmonid Rearing and Trials Centre, which includes a salmonid hatchery and on-growing unit, lab and fish processing area, and a trials unit with 72 tanks., We would also aim to appoint a candidate who in addition to the overseeing the operation of the facilities, can contribute to the education of the next generation of aquarists by providing practical instruction and support to our students and undertake some hours per week as an instructor, hours undertaken as an instructor would be paid at a higher hourly rate.

The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject, strong practical skills and demonstrable experience in water quality, aquatic husbandry, record keeping and aquatic health monitoring, together with excellent communication skills, a creative and flexible approach and a passion for fish! A current driving licence would be required.
