Full Job Description

As a technician in Clinical Skills and Simulation you will be pivotal in bringing healthcare training to life for the students of the college. You will be responsible supporting efficient and engaging learning and teaching in the health area of Science, through providing effective technical support in the clinical skills suites and other teaching areas, primarily at 2 Lister Building, but also supporting our 1 Lister Building, and at some occasions per year at the main Aston University. Your role is fundamental in helping to ensure that Health learning is exciting and realistic, delivered in partnership with Aston University, NHS and our significant industry partners, so that our young people are motivated to strive for excellence.

Sponsored by Aston University and based on our City centre campus, Aston University Sixth Form has a dedicated Post 16 Health and Science department delivering the governments new T levels in Nursing, Midwifery and Optometry. Our Health department teachers are current NHS clinical practitioners including nurses, midwifes and optometrists and our facilities include dedicated health provision in a state of art building including simulation opticians, hospital ward and simulation birthing.

The principal duty will be the provision and setup of practical equipment for the delivery of clinical skills training. In addition technicians support and maintain sophisticated medical simulation manikins and equipment for delivering clinical simulation. The role covers all aspects of nursing, midwifery, optometry, occupational therapy, and psychology.

Reporting to the senior technician and Health Subject leader you will work a normal 37 hour week of days. There is an element of flexibility to the working pattern to suit both business need and family friendly policies of the university in a role where TOIL can be accumulated and used.
