Full Job Description
We are currently recruiting for Terminal Operatives (Tier 1), to join our operations team at DP World, Stanford-Le-Hope. This position will deliver a world-class container and cargo handling service for the terminal to fulfil the needs of its customers. While maximising efficiency and effectiveness, take into account commercial, operational, and safety considerations, and follow terminal rules and procedures. The primary role of a Terminal Operative - Tier 1 is to operate a Quay Crane but the role does involve driving mobile plant equipment, pinning and multi checking. This role will be working a mixture of day and night shifts, on a pattern of 4 on 4 off. About The Role How will you contribute:
- Subject to training and individual capabilities, your primary role will be to drive a Quay Crane, you will also be expected to drive plant machinery and other vehicles on the terminal, to assist with the movement of containers.
- To assist with the container lashing operation, carry out the fitting and removal of twist locks to and from containers and to assist with the mooring and un-mooring of vessels.
- Attend team meetings, perform an effective Handover, and operate radio communications.
- Supplement a team involved in cargo handling operations, for the presentation of cargo and other cargo handling duties. This will include the use of a forklift and other cargo handling equipment.
- Conduct pre and post operational safety checks on equipment, reporting any defects to control.
- Assist the crane operator in container handling, as required and ensuring that the operations are not delayed.
- Carry out the fitting and removal of twist locks to and from containers, from a safe position on the pinning platform.
- Assist with the load and discharge of containers from trains at the railhead.
- Ensure that the operations are conducted in a timely and effective manner as per expected standards such that the crane operations are neither delayed nor impacted negatively.
- Take responsibility for safety and discipline in work area and report accidents and 'near misses' in accordance with defined safety procedures. What will you Bring.
- Full valid UK driving license holder
- Proven experience within a similar role
- Experience within a logistics, marine, industrial or similar industry
- Basic level understanding of all Microsoft applications
- Ability to work at heights.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Understands the importance of working safely;
- Flexibility with the ability to work shifts and to work overtime when necessary;
- 'Can do' approach with the ability to work as a team to meet Terminal needs/deadlines; NOTE: All our roles are subject to the below:
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Ability to travel to our other port when necessary.
- We may close our roles early, depending on the number of applications received.
- A full valid UK driving licence or appropriate international licence allowing you to drive on UK roads.
- Able to meet the safety critical medical and fitness requirements of the role which include but are not limited to, weight, height, blood pressure, hearing & certain food allergies.
- Minimum of three skills including one landside, one shipside and one piece of mobile plant; the specific skills will be in line with business needs. The standard Tier Skill Requirements will still apply.
