Full Job Description

Personal Assistant required to support a 7 year old boy and his family living in Bisley, Surrey.
The hours and days we require assistance are between 3:30pm and 6pm, on all weekdays except Thursdays, during term time. This will add up to ten hours a week. We also have funding for fifteen hours a week during school holidays, but we would discuss what this might look like with the potential candidate.
Do you require your PA to drive?: No
Please provide any additional information about where you need your support and/or driving requirements: At home, inside and outside.
Standard hourly rate: £16.00, T lives with his older brother, J, who also has various needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, and significant emotional regulation difficulties. J is nine years old and is sometimes unable to attend school due to anxiety and mental health needs.
As a family we are seeking a Personal Assistant to support Mum in the post-school afternoon period, primarily to keep T safe in the event of J being dysregulated and the boys needing to be separated, or in the event of Mum needing to leave the room (e.g. to use the toilet or to cook dinner). Other tasks might include watching J outside in the immediate vicinity of the house while he scoots or cycles. Some days you might sit on the sofa between them watching a film. Flexibility will be key!
T is a delightful boy, but it will take time for him to "warm up" to a stranger and the candidate needs to fully understand the more challenging aspects of his profile when engaging with him, and not try to move too quickly in building a relationship with him. T enjoys activities such as jigsaw puzzles, ball sports, jumping on the trampoline, and playing board games.
Dad works from home on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, so will be in the house, but unavailable to help. On Tuesdays he goes to the office.
On Thursdays T attends Beavers straight from school, and J stays at home with Dad, so there is less need for support on these afternoons.
Therefore, the hours and days we require assistance are between 3:30pm and 6pm, on all weekdays except Thursdays, during term time. This will add up to ten hours a week.
We also have funding for fifteen hours a week during school holidays, but we would discuss what this might look like with the potential candidate.
We have two cats in the house who are very friendly.

The candidate needs to have a thorough understanding of Autistic Spectrum Disorders and, ideally, experience of being around autistic children. T does require continence assistance, but this will primarily be done by Mum, especially until a relationship has been formed. Knowledge or experience of using PDA strategies, and NVR (Non-Violent Resistance) training would be useful.
An open mind and gentle-parenting persuasion, alongside flexibility will be most valuable.

T is a seven-year-old boy with various needs, including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, with a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile. He is extremely anxious and has Selective Mutism (he is unable to communicate verbally in some situations). T is also incontinent and wears nappies all the time.
