Full Job Description

Thackray Fellowship at Wrightington Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust from August 2026 for 12 Months . This role is fixed term Fellowship.

    This post is specific to hip and knee primary and revision arthroplasty and non-arthroplasty hip surgery.


  • The successful candidate will work with Professor Tim Board (hip primary and revision arthroplasty, primary knee arthroplasty and non-arthroplasty hip surgery) and Mr Anil Gambhir (primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty). Both of whom receive large numbers of tertiary referrals from across the North West and further afield.

    The unit is at the forefront of modern arthroplasty techniques and you will be exposed to techniques such as direct anterior hip replacement, day case hip arthroplasty, hip arthroscopy, single and two stage revision for infection, paediatric hip replacement, impaction bone grafting and many others.

    This fellow post is purely based at Wrightington although there is the opportunity to partake in trauma lists. There will be exposure to periprosthetic fracture treatment as both TNB and AKG are involved in the periprosthetic fracture trauma rota.

    Surgeons from the UK and around the world who are undertaking training at Wrightington are at the end of or beyond their formal training programme - they represent the very best of surgeons in training.

    There is ample opportunity for basic science and clinical research, with the support of our research team, as well as the Trust's very active and dynamic R&D Department.     £55,329 to £63,152 a year per annum pro rata if part time
