Full Job Description

At UHCW we are looking for a Band 6 Theatre Practitioner in our Obstetric theatres. The applicant needs to be a dynamic enthusiastic individual who is able to, or has the potential to demonstrate strong leadership, managerial, and role modelling skills, acting as a clinical support, providing great communication within a MDT and working closely with main theatre coordinators and labour ward staff. The candidate will ensure a clinical presence & provide support to the Senior Sister.

They will be directly involved in leading the strategic direction of the services in collaboration with the Band 7 whilst maintaining and building on clinical, managerial and leadership skills by working within a clinical management model., · Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the peri-operative care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.

· Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choice of patients undergoing surgery.

· Maintain health, safety, and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.

· Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.

· Prepare, monitor, and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, take action if found to be faulty.

· Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures.

· Contribute to treating patients during clinical emergencies.

· Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.

· Maintain accurate & legible records of care.

Clinical - Surgery/Anaesthetics/Recovery

· Assess requirements of the theatre/anaesthetic room/recovery room for the operating list.

· Provide all necessary equipment and materials for the list.

· Monitor all equipment used, act if found to be faulty.

The applicant who must be able to demonstrate high quality clinical skills and a proven track record to lead, supervise and manage staff. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to manage innovative joint working across the theatre team and MDT.

The successful candidate will need to be particularly skilled at creating and maintaining a positive and healthy culture in a challenging environment. The post holder will be closely supported in the role by the Band 7 Senior Sister.

The successful applicant will be able to have a passion for providing safe patient care while maintaining high clinical standards through strong, focused and inspirational leadership for a dedicated group of staff.

They will have evidence of ongoing professional development and a familiarity with the concept of clinical governance and its components.

The successful candidate will have good communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient focused excellence.

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

- Registered Nurse or ODP

- Substantial years post qualification in theatre practitioner role

- Experience of obstetric scrub and, or, obstetric recovery practice

- Mentorship/ILS desirable but not essential, · Demonstrate extensive knowledge of operative procedures/departmental procedures.

· Demonstrate budgetary control, ordering and supplying materials required within agreed budgets.

Teamwork

· Communicate effectively with other members of the theatre team and other clinical work areas.

· Acknowledge and value people's roles within the team.

· Recognise own and other limitations within the team and take appropriate action.
