Full Job Description

To carry out assigned tasks, including care of patients, in support of, and supervised by a Registered Nurse / Theatre Practitioner.

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has 23 Theatres split across two sites (Wycombe Hospital and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury) covering a wide variety of both elective and emergency surgery.

Our Theatres team pride themselves on providing a first class service to patients in Buckinghamshire and the surrounding counties who need to undergo elective and emergency surgery across a wide range of surgical specialties

Stoke Mandeville Hospital Theatres are looking for a hard working and motivated individual to join our Theatre team.

The role involves many different aspects of Theatre work and full training will be given to the successful applicant

The successful applicant will

  • Be able to work unsocial hours, possibly short notice


  • Both part time and full time applicants will be considered.

    We have two-tier assessment process for our HCA role. Firstly, you will take a Numeracy and Literacy test. Second, if you meet our standards, you will then proceed to be interviewed by our clinical staff., Communicate with patients and their families to include patients with learning difficulties and paediatric patients, in order to promote their comfort and well-being by supporting them pre-operatively or in the Anaesthetic Room prior to surgery.

    Communicate with other members of the organisation and respond appropriately.

    Assist with patient transfer to and from the department if required.

    Assist with transfer of patients within the department.

    To perform circulating duties and provide the scrub team with sterile consumables, accurately, effectively and in a safe manner.

    Obtain & label specimens from within the sterile field as directed by nurse in charge (e.g. body fluids, wound swabs, tissue). .

    Carry out designated tasks as part of the team for which appropriate training has been given.

    Maintenance of appropriate patient records and Trust documentation.

    Use the theatre computer system for patient administration.

    To assist in the maintenance of the sterile field during operative procedures.
