Were acommunity healthcare provider working across the Northwest and we have anexciting opportunity for Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our team. The post isbased within the Child Development Centre, Sandy Lane, Warrington. We are acommunity-based team, working with children and young people 0-16 years, with arange of physical and developmental conditions, complex needs and functionaldifficulties. We work in a variety of settings, including purpose-built healthcentres, mainstream and SEN schools and nurseries, and childrens homes. JobPurpose : Underthe direction of the therapist you will be expected to undertake delegatedduties and report back on the progress made. You will be expected to maintainaccurate electronic patient records and undertake administrative and clericalwork as required by the service., We are looking for an enthusiastic TherapyAssistant with good communication skills who can bring relevant experiences tothe post. You will be expected todeliver and implement treatment programmes devised by the Therapist forchildren with a range of medical conditions and presentations, as well asassisting in the set up and running of different clinics. You will need to be a team player and workcollaboratively with a supportive and integrated Therapy Team. You willbe receiving regular support and supervision to enable you to complete yourrole to a high standard. You will be required to participate in ongoing servicedevelopment and contribute to the wider health and education multi-disciplinaryteam within your role. This isa chance to be a part of an exciting time for childrens services and tocontribute to improving the lives of children and their families., Toimplement treatment programmes for children with disabilities, children in thecommunity and maintain records of such, working under indirect supervision orwith the physiotherapist / occupational therapist.

  • Tocarry out delegated work, reporting back patient progress and informing thetherapist of any problems.
  • To administer clerical work of the physiotherapy / OT department, includingarranging appointments and clinic organisation.
  • To administer stock of officesupplies and therapy equipment.
  • To carry out specifiedtreatment programmes as set by qualified staff, and to use experience to reportback any changes or responses to the staff.
  • To use treatment modalitiesinitially as directed by a therapist, using good coordination and handlingtechniques to progress through the programme identified. This will involve someunsupervised contact (work) with the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Tocarry out joint and individual therapy sessions, in different locations, withchildren of varying levels of disability. These children often have behaviouralor learning difficulties, sensory problems (blindness, deafness), orcombinations of such difficulties. These sessions may have minimal directsupervision by the therapist, but are supervised indirectly.
  • Tofollow procedures and treatment plans, occasionally working alone in thecommunity with qualified therapist advice available if needed.
  • Torisk assess manoeuvring dependent children in the treatment sessions and to useexperience to position them correctly in chairs etc.
  • Tocomplete maintenance and safety checks on specialist paediatric equipment andreport any problems to therapist / team leader.
  • Followingappropriate training, to be able to monitor and review therapy equipment,including standing frames and specialist seating as fit for purpose and reportany concerns / problems to the qualified therapist / team leader.
  • Following appropriate training, to be able to demonstrate safe use of therapyequipment, including standing frames and specialist seating to parents, carers,education staff and other relevant professionals.
  • Tocomplete organisational and departmental documentation in relation to issuingof equipment.
  • To have knowledge of and to use, equipment hoists and wheelchairs.
  • Touse moving / handling techniques in the moving of patients, or equipmentincluding changes in position.
  • To assist with hydrotherapy sessions ensuring safe transfers in and out of thepool, undressing and dressing of clients and transfers to staff in the pool.This often includes contact with bodily fluids and toileting dependentchildren. This requires the use of hoists and knowledge of transfer techniques.
  • Toparticipate in hydrotherapy sessions, working directly with children and youngpeople in the pool and by completing pool side duties. .To complete pool safetychecks, including pool chlorine level testing in line with departmentalprocedures.
  • Needingphysical fitness to deal with patients who are unpredictable in movement,assuring their support and your and their safety.
  • Towork with infection control and health and safety guidelines in order to dealappropriately with unpleasant conditions related to client contact as theyarise.
  • Tobe able to use mental concentration to pick up signs showing distress of thepatient, seizures, or compromised respiratory status.
  • To assist the therapist / / teamleader with the organisation of specific clinics, including attending theclinic, participating in and following up on.
