Therapy Assistant Practitioner - Heart Services

The post will utilise a combination of treatments based on both occupational therapy and physiotherapy skills. The post holder would become part of the therapy team and would be responsible for the delivery of rehabilitation programmes to patients on cardiac intensive care, high dependency, and ward areas overseen by registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists., Core responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
+ Working autonomously and be able to assess and treat patients under the guidance of qualified occupational and physiotherapists.
+ Using initiative ways of working to maximise rehabilitation and patient experience
+ Working with fellow band 4 Assistant Practitioners
+ Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in all clinical areas.
+ Providing supervision, development and peer support to support workers (band 3 level)
+ Leading by example ensuring that Trust Values and Behaviours are embedded in everyday practice.
+ Using exercise equipment and mobility aids with patients.
+ Delivering cognitive assessments.
+ Providing rehabilitation, functional activities, and early physical interventions i.e. in bed cycling, relaxation techniques
+ Liaising with family and patients regarding rehabilitation goals and co-ordinate delivery of rehabilitation with multi-disciplinary team
+ Completing a range of non-clinical tasks alongside other support workers within the team (i.e. stats)

An opportunity has arisen to recruit a part time (30 hours per week) Band 4 Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join the Cardiac Surgery Team at City Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated and caring individual to join our team to deliver this exciting service. The aim of this post is to increase rehabilitation provision to patients within cardiac services on cardiac intensive care and associated wards during their inpatient admission., The successful candidate will have an NVQ 3 or equivalent, and recent experience working as a Band 3 OT/Physiotherapy or Generic Support Worker. The candidate should be able to work well as part of a team, and demonstrate good communication and prioritisation skills. The candidate must be organised, flexible and adaptable, and able to problem solve effectively. They must also have good IT skills and be able to manage and prioritise a case load as delegated by the registered therapists. NUH supports 7 day working and the post holders will be required to work flexibly across seven days to support the therapies in providing weekend services.

The Physiotherapy service is part of the Therapies and Rehabilitation Services pathway, which is one of the pathways that together make up the Clinical Support Division at NUH. We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 800 staff, who works together to deliver the high quality care we aspire to. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthotists, prosthetists and speech and language therapists. We have a Chief AHP to lead us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have pathway AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.

It is a permanent role at 30 hours. Core hours will be worked Monday to Friday. Non-working day will be discussed with the successful candidate, based on service need and individual preference. Additional weekend duties will be 1-2 times per month, depending on clinical need.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
