Full Job Description

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining a robust, sustainable and high quality referral system for potential donors, working closely with the National Referral Centre and maintaining effective communication, to ensure all aspects of the donation process progress daily. In addition, you will co-ordinate and deliver teaching to Trust staff in this unique and specialised area.

You will contribute to the promotion, education and normalisation of tissue donation after death in both the hospital and community settings. Being a Tissue and Eye Donation Nurse Specialist offers the chance to save and improve lives, make a difference, grow professionally, and collaborate with a dedicated team.

You will work alongside a dedicated Bereavement Team who are responsible for co-ordinating the administrative practicalities following a patient's death. The team sensitively handle the administration of on average 3,800 adult inpatient deaths per year across the Royal Stoke and County Hospital sites, in addition to the sensitive management of pregnancy losses, stillbirths and deaths in early infancy. You will work collaboratively alongside colleagues within the Bereavement Centre and provide cover across the department as required during times of staff shortages, contributing to the work of the wider team, to ensure that an efficient service is provided that is sensitive to the needs of the bereaved.

Are you looking for your next challenge? Do you want to work for a team that makes a difference, every single day, to bereaved people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent? University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust have an exciting opportunity to join a new Tissue and Eye Donation Service, working in collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals to help develop the service, and to raise awareness of Tissue and Eye Donation locally. You will be proactive and have the ability to balance empathy with the need to make decisions and problem solve. You will have access to a comprehensive range of training and development opportunities, to develop the specific level of knowledge and understanding required to succeed in this role.

The role is office-based within the Bereavement Centre, and you will be based primarily at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. As the service develops over time, travel within the local community may be required. Participation in rotational weekend and bank holiday cover will be required, and you will be expected to be flexible to business needs., University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust is one of the largest and most modern in the country. Based across two sites, Royal Stoke in Stoke-on-Trent and County Hospital in Stafford, we are proud to serve around three million people and we're highly regarded for our facilities, teaching and research.
