Full Job Description

As a Trading Standards Officer you'll hit the ground running, connecting with a wide range of people and businesses. Your responsibilities will include managing your casework, dealing with consumer complaints, the provision of business advice, undertaking complex investigations and maintaining knowledge of trading standards matters.

As part of your role, you'll be responsible for leading on the enforcement of the provisions relating to corrosive products within the Offensive Weapons Act, this includes activities such as awareness raising and compliance visits, test purchasing operations and follow-up actions, investigations and prosecutions of any retailers or delivery companies.

You will work as part of a small and dedicated team covering compliance issues for commercial businesses and residents, as part of a wider consumer protection delivery agenda and Council objectives.

You will have experience in all aspects of Trading Standards work, a Diploma in Trading Standards or Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (or equivalent), and proven experience in trading standards, or a related field involving the application of diverse enforcement tools, is essential. Equally important will be in-depth knowledge of investigatory practices, legal practices, legislation - and, crucially, the needs of businesses., A self-starter and a team player, you're a great communicator both in person and in writing.
