An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint 1.0 WTE Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to undertake the funded MSc Advanced Practice (Neonates) course commencing at Salford University in January 2025 (N.B. the start date of the programme may be subject to change and should be confirmed by the University by September/October 2024).

Applications are invited from caring, enthusiastic, reliable, flexible, and motivated individuals with excellent clinical and managerial skills who are committed to ongoing learning and development and competent at ensuring safe, high quality, optimum care is delivered from staff who feel valued and an essential part of the team., The Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (ANNP) will work within the multidisciplinary team working towards becoming competent at undertaking advanced autonomous clinical practice in order to provide expert clinical care and management for infants and their families admitted to the Neonatal Unit in accordance with unit guidelines and protocols.

The Trainee ANNP although clinical approximately 80% of the time, also has a senior clinical leadership role within the Directorate, striving to constantly improve neonatal nursing care on the ward through developing new initiatives, undertaking audit and an active role in education, mentorship and supervision.

The post holder will work closely with the Matron and Directorate Manager, Paediatrics and the neonatal team to ensure both the Directorate's local governance agenda, including the review and development of neonatal clinical guidelines, and the national agenda for nursing and neonates is fully met.

  • minimum of a 2:1 degree in a related subject (usually nursing)

  • Significant years' experience within the neonatal field

  • Current NMC registration

  • QIS/ENB405


  • Students who do not meet these requirements (2:1 + substantial year's experience) will be considered for entry/accepted onto the programme via the Accreditation of Prior Experience and Learning (APEL) process and may be required to submit additional evidence to demonstrate capability to study at level 7. Dependent on qualifications students may also be required to submit a professional portfolio to evidence capabilities e.g. audits, leadership projects etc.).

    The Secretary of State has approved the partnership between St Helens & Knowsley and Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals.

    From 1st July we have come together as a single organisation under the name Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
