Trainee Analyst

The position of Laboratory Trainee Analyst is within our Abbott Toxicology laboratory located in Loughton (Essex). As a Laboratory Trainee Analyst you would be part of the Screening & Confirmation team in the lab and would be involved in e the preparation and analysis of drugs of abuse in biological samples conducted by immunoassay, LC-MS/MS and GC-FID. What You'll Do

• Screening of urine samples by CEDIA/HEIA and preparation of daily screening quality controls and reagents
• Extraction of drugs from urine (SPE/LLE) and associated processes such as setting up batches on instruments, checking sequences, storing and disposal of samples.
• Preparation of laboratory solutions
• Setting up of instruments and running system suitability checks (SSTs)
• Daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks and routine maintenance and completion of associated equipment records
• Assisting in the preparation of reagents, calibration standards and control materials
• Assisting in stock control
• Maintaining safe and efficient working practices in the laboratory to ensure conformity to all relevant H&S and quality standards (ISO 17025)
  
  Science degree or equivalent experience
• Previous laboratory experience
• Understanding of the panels of drugs analysed at the laboratory and the reasons for testing these
• Understanding of the types of extraction methods utilised within the laboratory
• Understanding the appropriate health and safety considerations for the laboratory
• Conform with appropriate safety & quality standards
• Attention to detail
• Able to function well as an individual or as part of a team
• Able to take ownership of own work
