Full Job Description

As part of our long-standing collaboration with the Children and Young Peoples Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP- IAPT) program, we have an exciting opportunity to recruit 3 Trainee CBT Therapists to work within our CAMHS services across the Durham and Tees Valley area. Two posts will be based within our Getting More Help services in Easington and Darlington, and one post is within our specialist community Eating Disorders team. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about developing their skills and knowledge and who are keen to deliver evidence based psychological intervention to young people experiencing difficulties with anxiety and/or depression.

These posts are full-time for one year, with the successful candidates working within their allocated CAMHS community team for the duration, splitting their working week between training at the University of Northumbria and carrying out clinical work within their team. Candidates will work towards achieving a Post Graduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Therapy (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). At the end of the fixed term contract, candidates will be encouraged to apply for posts within our CAMHS services.

To be eligible for a trainee post, you must meet the criteria for CBT training and have a BABCP-recognised professional background in mental health or related areas. This means having a recognised core profession & relevant registration. If you do not have a core profession, you must have a completed & verified Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes portfolio (KSA)portfolio of evidence to show that you have equivalent training and experience. Please see the BABCP website for more information.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge & understanding, professional skills & abilities and personal values required of competent and effective CBT practitioners. During the programme, successful candidates will learn how to assess and treat children and young people who present with anxiety and/or low mood/depression using CBT.

Northumbria University are passionate about developing excellent practitioners and equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective evidence based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for children and young people with anxiety and/or depressive disorders.
