Full Job Description

These roles are based in the Research Operations Office, part of the University's Research Office. Supporting world leading research on a global platform, our team of professional services staff is responsible for providing expert advice and guidance and for financially administering external research funding, on behalf of academics and Departments within the University's Schools., We have 2 exciting opportunities to learn on the job, gain a recognised qualification and join the team as a Trainee Finance Analyst - Research and Grants. With the benefit of working as part of a small cohort, rotating around all our School facing teams, you will be trained to support the financial administration of a portfolio of research grants across the University's Schools and Institutions, ensuring that all eligible expenses are recovered from the funder over the course of the award.

Alongside the role, the role holders will be required to undertake the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship Standard. This apprenticeship will provide the necessary skills and knowledge to assist in the above responsibilities and support your development in the team. The University of Cambridge offers many opportunities for professional services staff to progress to other roles. We are a large and busy team so there are plenty of opportunities to build on the Level 3 qualification and start your career in Research Administration.

Due to UK apprenticeship funding regulations applicants must have a right to work in the UK, or for EU citizens hold pre-settled or settled status and have been a UK or EU resident for the last three years or have indefinite leave to remain with documents that are not due to expire during the duration of the apprenticeship contract. Applicants must also not already have a qualification at a higher level within the same subject matter., Educated to A level standard/NVQ level 3 or equivalent, you'll be numerically confident with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy, ability to communicate across a wide range of audiences and mediums and have a proactive approach to workload management. In addition you be working as part of a variety of diverse and customers focussed teams, so you will need a flexible and proactive approach. You will need a good understanding of the Microsoft Office suite e.g. Word, Outlook, and Excel.

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. These roles require onsite attendance at Greenwich House and or Addenbrookes site for a minimum of 2 days per week with additional onsite working according to business need.
