Full Job Description
x2 Trainee Physiologist's
Band 4 - 37 hours per week
Train to provide a complex, specialist Clinical Neurophysiology service to patients of all ages and from a range of specialities suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders; both neurological and/or psychiatric in nature., Train in a specialist diagnostics and to work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis with others in a team to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service. Participate in training, education and assessment in line with National and Professional requirements; this includes the use of analytical and judgemental skills in data analysis and the provision of patient reports., Maintain high professional standards of Neurophysiological services to patients.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure service(s) meet changing healthcare needs.
Follows guidelines for the implementation of policies and standard operating procedures.
Trains to independently perform, analyse, interpret and report routine Encephalograms (EEG's) in a dedicated environment, using standardardised techniques on patients of all age groups. This includes performing activation procedures and taking appropriate action where necessary.
Train to independently perform emergency, portable EEG's in a non-dedicated environment; such as Critical Care Units (CCU) or general wards. This could be at any hospital covered by the department/region.
Train to independently perform more complex EEG investigations using special techniques; these include recordings following sleep deprivation and recordings during administration of medication (E.g. melatonin, diazepam).
The performance of EEG will be under supervision initially, with a documented training and assessment plan and eventual sign-off of competency.
Training in the performance of Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) for the diagnosis of Carpal Tunnel syndrome.
Training to perform all modality evoked potentials taking appropriate action(s) where necessary.
Train to assist Consultant Neurophysiologists with EMG (Electromyographic) examinations and NCS during medical clinics.
Train to perform simple fault remedy, cleaning and maintenance of recording equipment or any apparatus within the department; including care and maintenance of electrodes and transducers.
