Full Job Description
The Engineering Academy is part of the Land Based and Technology Enterprise Directorate. The Academy provides training and assessment for apprenticeships, workplace assessments, full and part time engineering courses from levels 1 to 3 and Higher Education at the college's Trident, Leamington Spa, Pershore and Rugby Centres. The post holder will join the existing Engineering team and be responsible to the Technical Academy Manager for the area.,
- To help, guide and support students, following their initial enquiry and interview, to choose the right course of study.
- To develop the skills of students within the area of the workshop.
- To administer the oversee skills training in a classroom and workshop environment within the academy.
- To apply assessment procedures and methods.
- To prepare & set-up physical materials and equipment for workshop activities.
- To produce a preventative maintenance schedule and carry out such maintenance on all tools and workshop equipment.
- To order workshop equipment and materials in conjunction with the team leader.
- To maintain the workshop to current H&S standards.
- To attend team meetings.
- To assist in developing this area of work
- To assist in developing and applying a Lean philosophy within this area of work
- To ensure all students are aware of the Health & Safety Guidelines in the workshop
- To ensure student tracking is kept up to date.
- Monitor and report on student progress. In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training. The list of duties is not exhaustive but outlines the main features of the post at appointment and may vary as the job evolves without affecting the nature of the duties or the responsibility level. OFFERS OF WORK For the successful candidate a conditional offer of work will be made. Our offer of work will be conditional upon a number of mandatory pre-employment checks, to include but not limited to: DBS, Barred List check, right to work check, internet search, TRA check (academic posts).
- Evidence of formal structured training.
- A level 3 qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, e.g. City & Guilds
- Advanced Craft or NVQ Level 3 etc.
- Current experience in a welding and fabrication workshop environment.
- Vocational experience of working in industry and dealing with customers.
- Teacher Training Qualification or the willingness to undertake the courses required to gain this.
- Assessor award A1, or equivalent, or a willingness to complete the award.
- Experience of working with awarding bodies and knowledge of their systems and paperwork. DESIRABLE ATTAINMENTS
