Full Job Description

We are looking for highly motivated and experienced Transport Fleet Controller to join the busy 24/7 Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) at Guy's and St Thomas'.

NEPTS is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport due to their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. All requests for patient transport are assessed on medical need. Transport is only provided for patients coming from their home addresses to our Trust sites in South East London, or patients being discharged from our South East London locations to anywhere in mainland UK.

The Transport Fleet Controller is responsible for supporting the NEPTS Transport Shift Managers and NEPTS Transport Manager in delivering a high quality resource and ensuring the smooth running of the Transport Department. Their primary role is the daily management of the Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service (NEPTS) fleet, ensuring that all required resources and specialist equipment is readily available to the NEPTS team enabling our Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA) and Emergency Care Assistants (ECA) to complete patient transfers safely and in line with all Trust and Department of Health policies and guidelines.

The specific core responsibility of the post holder will be:

  • Ensuring that all vehicles and patient moving equipment are readily available and serviced for use - ensuring defects and routine services are completed and monitored with minimal impact to the operation.

  • Utilising the CLERIC system to review future journeys to monitor and plan for vehicle and equipment allocation.

  • Using the transport telemetric and CLERIC systems for the daily management of the ambulance fleet.

  • Cover shifts, if required, by acting as an Ambulance Care Assistant until a suitable person or resource becomes available.

  • Our patient transport service is available for patients who cannot travel to or from our hospitals using any other method of transport because of their medical or mobility condition, or because their medical condition would otherwise worsen. We provide the service to the Guys and St Thomas's sites including Renal and cancer services.

We are a large busy and friendly team with our own in-house transport team. We support each other and constantly strive to look for improvements in making our service the best it can possibly be for patients. We are part of the ISO9001 standards and with the processes we have in place our yearly external audits have enabled us to achieve positive results.
