Full Job Description
Our primary operation is the delivery, collection and servicing of waste containers, ie, skips, roll-on/roll-off, wheelie bins, boxed tipper collection artic and trailer operations. We have recently installed a £5.5M wash plant and this will increase the tipper requirements for delivery and collection of recycled aggregates produced by us.
We also have a portable toilet division (Ace Loos) which operate a variety of 7.5t and under vehicles and Land Rovers.
We are seeking a proactive and solution-focused individual to assume the role of Transport Manager. This role requires a hands-on approach to daily transport planning in a fast paced environment, aimed at boosting operational efficiency and profitability through the optimisation of the vehicle fleet and staff coordination. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in liaising with various departments, including transport, workshop, sales, and management, to ensure high vehicle standards, adherence to maintenance schedules, and regulatory compliance are maintained.
Transport Manager Responsibilities:
- Named on company Operator's Licence.
- Initiate and implement solutions to operational challenges, thereby enhancing the company's efficiency and profitability.
- Management of approximately 40 drivers and 2 office based workers
- Responsibility for vehicle fleet of approximately 40 x HGVs, 10 x 7.5t or under, trailers plus Land Rovers and company vehicles
- Oversee daily fleet operations, including transport planning, to guarantee optimal performance and profitability.
- Involvement in the purchasing of new equipment.
- Work collaboratively with the transport team, workshops, Ace Loos, recycling department, sales and management to maintain vehicle standards, maintenance, staffing needs, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure that vehicles meet the company's standards and liaise with he workshop and third parties for required services and repairs.
- Strictly adhere to driving regulations, working time directives, and all relevant company policies and legislative requirements.
- Respond to road incidents and insurance claims.
- Oversee site operations, focusing on their effectiveness, efficiency, and cleanliness.
A solid educational foundation. - Qualifications in transport operations (CPC National/International or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience in managing transport.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively manage competing demands.
- In-depth understanding of transport regulations.
- The ability to perform well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel. Training on industry specific software will be provided.
- A committed, reliable, and adaptable team player.
- The ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines efficiently.
- Possession of a full UK Driving Licence is essential.
- Knowledge of waste and recycling industry would be advantageous.
- HGV Driving Licence preferred.
- Working knowledge of the local area an advantage
Ace Liftaway Ltd is a Waste Management company based in Romsey, Hampshire. We currently operate 15 and 18 tonne Skip Loaders, Hook Loaders, Grab Loaders, Tippers, Tipper Grabs, Compaction vehicles, a boxed tipper, Tractor Units and Ejector/Walking Floor Trailers. We also have our own on-site commercial workshop and MOT spec'd test lane (not currently licenced to undertake MOTs).
