Full Job Description

The role of a Transport Officer is to provide supervisory support and assist in the operation and administration of the SEN Transport service. Working alongside the existing Transport Officer you will play a key role in building and maintaining strong links with service users, council colleagues and school/college staff. You will process all applications for travel assistance to ensure that they are assessed within reasonable timeframes and keep accurate records of all documentation received and decisions made. This is an excellent opportunity to join our expanding SEND transport team and help play a role in achieving positive outcomes for children and young people in Salford.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and flexible individual who must be willing to try new ideas, meet commitments, be adaptable and take pride in working for the Council. You will need to be calm under pressure with good communication, time keeping and organisational skills, sufficient to manage conflicting priorities in a fast paced environment. You will be proficient in the use of various office software required for the role and be willing to train in other software as required. Working knowledge of relevant legislation, processes, procedures and issues relating to children and young people with special educational needs would be desirable. The Transport Officer is part of the team responsible for the delivery of the school transport service, providing transport for students with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) to their school or college provision over the academic year.

We currently have an exciting vacancy within our amazing team to enable us to continue to build on our success and also bring new experience, knowledge and ideas., Please be aware that this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and that you will be required to meet the cost of the DBS check currently £49.50. The payment for this will be deducted from your first four months' salary payments at a rate of £12.38 per month. If you do not commence employment for any reason but the DBS has been processed, you will be sent an invoice for the payment of £49.50.
