Full Job Description

Objectives and Responsibilities

We are especially looking for someone with experience in transport management, and a keenness for innovation and bringing new ideas, to regularly improve services and introduce new systems to make our services the best they can be. This specifically includes innovations to support the University's sustainability priorities, developing strategies and provisions to reduce our campus carbon footprint, such as electric vehicle (EV) charging and greater promotion of sustainable travel.

The Transport Manager oversees all transport operations at the University of Sussex campus, which broadly includes the following:

Managing car parking on campus including permit issue, capacity ebb-and-flow, and visitors/contractors.

Maintaining parking enforcement and traffic management on site, including managing roads, pedestrian routes and cycling provision, advising on best practice.

Coordinating with local public transport providers to ensure the best delivery of services for University staff, students and visitors.

Operating the Transport Office administration centre including e-mail, phone calls, and a reception desk

Line managing all Transport Office staff including administrators, receptionists, and Parking Enforcement Officers.

Working closely with the University Client to ensure effective service delivery that meets the needs and overall strategy of the University.

Main duties

Project Manage implementation of paperless parking permits - The issue and records for renewals of parking permits and passes including visitor's permits.

Bringing parking innovation and expertise to manage all aspects of campus parking, including permit issuing, enforcement, and site signage.

Administration of records for renewals of parking permits and passes including visitor's permits.

Management of Transport Department employees.

Management of the coordination of campus events register, including parking and/or transport requirements.

Representing the University in discussions with the neighbouring Brighton & Hove Albion FC Amex Stadium, including events parking on campus and coordinating potential local impacts to roads and public transport.

Supporting Estates colleagues with managing transport impacts and road closures during ongoing capital and maintenance projects on site, to maintain safety and minimise impact on campus users.

Compilation of required reports, including weekly statistic reporting to the Client.

Customer Service

Responding to queries and requests from members of the University and visitors.

Overseeing of the customer service aspects of Transport Office operations including general enquiries, appeals etc.

Working with other SEF departments, such as Maintenance and Security, to provide the University community with a professional operation.

Working closely with the University Estates team and other key stakeholders

Developing promotions and incentives for travel options to and around campus such as cycling facilities on site, sustainable travel schemes, and public transport discounts.

Leadership

Line managing the Transport Administration team and Parking Enforcement Officers.

Managing the implementation of sustainable transport plan applications, leading the way on developing environmentally friendly solutions for University transport requirements.

Delivering new ideas and innovations to support the University's Transport Strategy, and drive to meet their targets for sustainability and efficient parking management.
