Full Job Description

We are looking to offer a 6 month fellowship training posts in complex trauma for the period of February 2025 to August 2025. This fellowship is designed to allow trained surgeons to increase their exposure to the management of trauma and complication management. In addition to furthering complex trauma skill set, the aim is to develop current and future Orthopaedic Consultant leadership capability for the NHS and to accelerate service transformation and quality improvement within and across trauma and orthopaedic services

This is a complex trauma post under the direct supervision of Mr Will Eardley and Mr James Bassett and the successful candidate would be exposed to a wide variety of challenging trauma cases, both acute and delayed reconstruction. There is adequate opportunity for exposure to Major trauma management, Limb reconstruction (Including frame and bone infection work), orthoplastics and Pelvic and Acetabular Trauma, alongside Mr James Bassett. The post holder would in appropriate cases have exposure to independent operating, and involvement in training of junior staff., The Fellow would be invited to departmental consultant meetings to witness and absorb issues at that level. Significant opportunity for research and quality improvement are another key feature of this post with several members of the department playing key roles in United Kingdom Orthopaedics, both trauma and elective.

Mr Eardley and his colleagues are heavily involved in research and the successful candidate would be expected to deliver on several projects for publication. Several of the consultant body hold key posts at a national level in research and governance roles.

South Tees NHS Trust is one of the largest in the country, comprising of the James Cook UniversityHospital, Middlesbrough and the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton. The James Cook UniversityHospital is a major tertiary and teaching centre with over 1,000 beds, serving a largely urbanPopulation. It provides comprehensive regional specialties including Cardiothoracic Surgery,Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Plastic Surgery, ENT and Ophthalmic Surgery. It is a regionalcentre for Spinal Cord Injury, Upper GI and Vascular Surgery. All other major specialties are catered for. The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, serves a population of 120,000 covering 1,000 sq miles ofrural North Yorkshire, and provides local medical services for the area.

The quality of life for professionals and their families in the North East of England is good with easyaccess to attractive countryside and beaches, a choice of highly rated schools and good travel access to the North and Scotland, the Lake District or the South by road, rail or air.

The post would be ideally suited to a peri-CCT, senior Orthopaedic trainee.
