Full Job Description

The appointee will be expected to work with the rest of the orthopaedic team to provide orthopaedic and trauma services to the county. The post will be predominantly based in the main two hospitals with work at other community hospital sites in the county.

The appointee will be expected to work eight clinical sessions per week, which is the same as the Specialist Registrars. Most of these sessions will be fixed but there will be an annualised component to cover other clinics and lists. The appointee will also be expected to take part in the middle grade on call rota at Gloucester Royal Hospital, which is prospectively covered.

The Orthogeriatric team also provide input to other elderly trauma patients as requested. The plan is to continue to expand the service in the future to provide joint Orthopaedic/Orthogeriatric care for all elderly trauma patients.

The postholder will be expected to support the daily Consultant ward rounds, attend the daily ward board rounds and 'huddles' and provide medical support and patient review on the Hip Fracture Unit and Orthopaedic wards to hip fracture patients, any medical outliers on these wards, and any other patients under the care of the Orthogeriatric team.

There are 28 Consultants in the department. The majority have commitments at both Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) and Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH). Elective Lower limb arthroplasty surgery is undertaken at CGH and all Trauma, Spinal and Paediatric work is undertaken at GRH. The Directorate has developed a complete range of special interests including traumatology, spine, hip, knee, foot, ankle, shoulder, hand and paediatric surgery.
