Full Job Description

The Council's Trees and Woodland manager plays an essential role in the in the preservation and enhancement of green spaces in the borough. The successful applicant will lead in the arboriculture function of the Development Management team, assisting in the delivery of landscape proposals for major sites, processing applications for works to protected trees and proactively manage and monitor the Councils tree register. This will involve assisting the Council's Planning Enforcement team investigate unauthorised work to protected trees and overgrown high hedges., This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English as per the person specification.

The post requires a candidate who has a passion for both preserving the boroughs green assets while delivering a built environment to achieve the council's aspirations for a cleaner, greener borough and mentor other officers in arboricultural matters. The candidate must carry a caseload of tree applications and have the confidence and capability to engage with and advise developers, residents and senior officers in tree matters.

This role has been designated as an essential car user; therefore you must possess a current, valid driving licence and a vehicle with a valid MOT certificate.

About You

The successful applicant must be knowledgeable on arboricultural matters and be able to provide clear advice, working constructively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver on major planning projects in the interest of the borough and its residents.

You must be able to carry a caseload of tree works and work flexibly in a changing environment responding quickly to conflicting workloads and changing priorities.

You will be able to communicate in a sensitive and effective manner both orally and in writing and able to deal effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Demonstrable and effective negotiation skills are essential, both inside and outside the authority, for example when engaging and negotiating trees works and landscaping schemes with complex competing priorities.
