Full Job Description

Help us to uphold patients' rights - become an RDaSH Trust Associate Hospital Manager
Are you interested in mental health?
Do you wish to have a rewarding, responsible and interesting role?
As part of the safeguards to protect patient's rights when they are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983, patients can request a review from the managers of the Trust (referred to as Hospital Managers in the Mental Health Act). The Trust appoint a panel of "independent lay members" who are not employed by the Trust to form panels to hear such reviews. The independent lay members are known within the Trust as Trust Associate Hospital Managers.
A Trust Associate Hospital Manager (TAHM) is a voluntary role and a panel of three members will review a detention or community treatment order., What does the role involve?
The panel of 3 Trust Associate Hospital Managers will hear appeals from patients who have been detained or placed on community treatment orders under the Mental Health Act and will consider whether their detention should continue or if they should be discharged from their detention. Although the process is not considered to be a legal procedure, it is subject to the laws of natural justice and therefore decisions must be fair and balanced.
Are you eligible to apply?
Essentially, we are looking for people who are committed to advancing the rights of the individual. If you feel you have good communication skills, an open mind, some knowledge of mental health issues, the ability to work as part of a team and can make decisions based on an analytical approach whilst remaining composed and focused, then we would like to hear from you. The Trust provides full training on the role.
Employees of the Trust are not eligible to apply as individuals on the panel are required to be independent lay members.
People of all ages, cultures and backgrounds are welcome to apply, we simply ask you can commit to 12 sessions a year (weekdays only).
This role is not a salaried employed role it is a voluntary role; however, you will be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses (currently £60) and mileage costs are reimbursed at 59p per mile.
