Full Job Description
Applications are invited for a full time, substantive Cardiology Clinical Fellow post (ST1-3 level) in Cardiology, based at Worthing hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust
The appointee will join the team at Worthing in providing continuity and expertise in the management of patients admitted to the cardiology ward/CCU. There will be opportunities to gain experience in echo, observe cardiac cath lab procedures and attend Cardiology clinics to broaden Cardiology experience.
This is a Monday-Friday daytime role (~40 hour week). There is no commitment to the General medicine on-call rota or weekend working., This SHO role is to ensure patients are seen by their consultant twice weekly and to coordinate between the ward and the lab teams. The post holder organises and requests scans including CTs, cardiac MRIs and echo cardiograms. The post holder will occasionally be required to supervise CT coronary angiograms and administer IV metoprolol as required to achieve adequately low resting heart rate to optimise image quality.
The post holder is the point of contact for all ward and MDT staff to answer any questions about ongoing care needs, physio input, pharmacy questions and family concerns.
The post holder ensures other members of the medical team are given opportunities to attend clinic/lab time/ teaching and to support more junior members of staff. The post holder engages with the 3rdand 5thyear medical students, to get them involved in the ward round, teach them medicine/examination/presenting skills and facilitate them getting their required sign offs.
