This may include an area within medicine, such as Geriatric Medicine, Cardiology, Respiratory, Rheumatology, Renal, Haematology or Acute Medicine which all provide stimulating and diverse educational opportunities. Other areas are also available, such as specialties within the care groups of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Surgery and Anaesthetics, Urology and Emergency Medicine. The appointee will be expected to cover for absence of colleagues (including on call cover) at short notice, e.g. sickness. Cover outside the Rota requiring extra hours of work will be paid as additional work at nationally agreed rates and will be coordinated to be compliant with the relevant legislation. It is expected that the post holder will play an active part in the training of junior medical staff. They will also be expected to supervise, educate and assist medical students. The post holder should take an active part in clinical audit, journal club and departmental teaching sessions. Regular appraisals will occur and the post holder will be expected to take part in CPD. A weekly timetable ensures a mix of duties to develop your experience and further your knowledge. You will be required to keep accurate notes that are dated, legible and signed, undertake VT Assessment and EDN as required. You will also be responsible for care and day-to-day clinical management under the direction of the relevant Consultant.
The ability to converse easily and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for all customer facing roles. Most positions require a Disclosure and Barring check and will be exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Posts working regularly or unsupervised with children or vulnerable adults require an enhanced check.
